contains comprehensive informations about the data stored in a file of type dirz.bin (universal direct access data format)

This file does contain all relevant informations about the data stored in a direct access file of type dirz.bin (DD). Any information is stored as a single data-record. Different numbers of information-records can be stored in arbitrary sequence. The following types of information can be stored:
- end of file mark
- code which describes the type of the data file DD
- information about additional files which are necessary for the correct interpretation of the data in DD (e.g. name of the file with bathymetry and grid)
- characteristic dates (e.g. start and end for the period of data analysis)
- number of data points stored in the file DD
- number and code for all physical quantities which are stored in DD
- comment lines
- description of time-series data (start and end time, number of time steps) if the data are stored as time-series in DD
- description of the data-file DD (name, recordlength, etc.)
- description of specific locations (coordinates, name of reference positions, etc.)
- informations about the storage-sequence of the data in the file DD
- date for the data-records stored in the file DD if synoptic data-sets are stored
