Example: Advective Flood Transport of Salt in the Inner Außenweser

From BAWiki

Isosurfaces of equal advective flood transport of salt are shown for a period comprising several tidal cycles (mean value within the period of data analysis). Arrows are superpositioned. They indicate the mean direction of flood current induced transport. The largest salt volumes are transported in the deep channels of the Außenweser (see bathymetry). This effect is due to the combination of high salinity, strong currents and great water depths. In general the transported salt volume reaches its largest values in the outer areas of the estuary and decreases in general towards the land. This is in accordance with the decrease of the mean salinity towards the mouth of the Unterweser from where a significant amount of fresh water is flowing into the Außenweser.
