## Motivation

The calculation as well as the graphic visualization of various tidal characteristic numbers of **potential energy anomaly (PEA)** contributes to an improved understanding of the vertical density stratification in areas like coastal seas and estuaries.

**Automatic analyses for all of the above mentioned tidal characteristic numbers of PEA are carried out for 2D-data by the programs NCANALYSE** (mode **TDKS**).
