The objective weather type classification is a method of classifying weather patterns on the data basis of grid point values of weather forecasts or climate models. The criteria for classification of the weather are different. A process developed by the German Meteorological Office involves the following criteria: a) cyclonality or anti-cyclonality near the ground and middle-tropospheric flow, b) large scale inflow direction and c) moisture content of the atmosphere.
