Attraction
From BAWiki
Definition
Whether fish find the entrance to a fishway depends on the structure’s overall location in the water body and on their ability to perceive the entrance when close to the structure. Attraction is differentiated according to the boundary conditions.
For large-scale attraction these are: the location of the fishway in the (main) migratory route of the fish which are expected to ascend to the facility (e.g. in relation to discharge distributions or the banks).
For small-scale attraction: siting of the entrances in relation to the transverse structure, the adjoining bank, water depth, etc. as well as a perceptible attraction flow from the fishway into the main channel.
