Motivation

Computation as well as visualization of the tide independent characteristic numbers of sediment transport gives some insight into the

  • significance of horizontal bed load transport, as well as
  • the importance of suspended sediment exchange between bottom and water column

for the available sediment mass at the bottom.

From these, conclusions can be drawn on the mean (residual) bed load transport, and the importance of deposition and erosion of suspended sediments.

Definitions for the tide-independent characteristic numbers of sediment transport

An automatic analysis is carried through by the computer program NCANALYSE.

Divergence of Horizontal Bed Load Transport

(Mean) mass flux (kg s-1) due to horizontal divergence of bed load transport within the period of analysis for all computational cells (control volumes).
No example graphics available yet.
Data analysis: NCANALYSE.

Exchange of Suspended Sediments at the Bottom

(Mean) mass flux (kg s-1) within the period of analysis due to deposition and erosion within computational cells (control volumes).
No example graphics available yet.
Data analysis: NCANALYSE.

Change of Sediment Mass

Difference of sediment mass (kg), for any sediment fraction, between final and initial mass within computational cells (control volumes).
No example graphics available yet.
Data analysis: NCANALYSE.
