Graphical representationof tide independent characteristic numbers of morphodynamics (with German text only). This graphical representation is also available in Encapsulated PostScript format

Motivation

Calculation and graphic display of several tide-independent characteristic numbers of morphodynamics can yield additional insight into medium or long term phenomena of natural coastal and/or inland waters. The computation of the tide-independent numbers can be preferably used for the analysis of changes in the bathymetrie during an arbitrary period.

An automatic analysis of all tide-independent characteristic numbers of morphodynamics is carried through by the computer programs LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Definitions for the Tide-Independent Characteristic Numbers of Morphodynamics

The characterstic numbers are derived from bathymetric depth, which is defined positive downwards. Due to this definition, erosion (deepening) corresponds to an increase in depth, whereas deposition (shallowing) corresponds to a decrease in depth.

Maximum Depth (HB)

Largest depth within an arbitrary period of time.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Minimum Depth (NB)

Smallest depth within arbitrary period of time.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Mean Depth (MB)

Arithmetic mean of the depth for an arbitrary period of time.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Maximum Variation of Depth (HB-NB)

Difference in depth between HB and LB for an arbitrary period of time. Maximum variation of depth is always larger or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Change of Depth

Depth difference between final and initial depth. Change of depth may be larger than zero, zero or less than zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Maximum Increase of Depth

Maximum increase of depth with respect to depth at initial time for an arbitrary period of time. For any location the difference between maximum depth HB and initial depth is evaluated. Maximum increase of depth is always larger than or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Maximum Decrease of Depth

Maximum decrease of depth with respect to depth at initial time for an arbitrary period of time. For any location the difference between minimum depth NB and initial depth is evaluated. Maximum decrease of depth is always less than or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Sum of Vertical Erosion

Sum over all time steps with (net) vertical erosion for an arbitrary period of time. Sum of vertical erosion is always larger or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Sum of Vertical Deposition

Sum over all time steps with (net) vertical deposition for an arbitrary period of time. Sum of vertical deposition is always less or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: LZKMF and NCANALYSE.

Activity of Bathymetry

Absolute values for sum of vertical erosion and sum of vertical deposition are added. Activity of bathymetry is always larger or equal to zero.
No example figure available so far.
Data analysis: NCANALYSE.
