Significance of the File

Adcp_profile.dat contains the data of one ADCP moving ship profile.

File-Contents (in Catchwords)

Each profile consists of several ensembles, each containing the values of one water column.

  • header lines describing the profile
  • timezone
  • start time of profile
  • end time of profile
  • water-level at the mean time
  • physical quantities of the data lines (name and unit)
  • number of depth layers
  • number of ensembles
  • data lines describing the ensembles; the ensembles are seperated by semicolons
  • Gauss-Krueger coordinates of each ADCP ensemble
  • depth relativ to the surface (mean value of all four beams)
  • measurement time (ADCP-clock)
  • ensemble number
  • time since start in seconds
  • extrapolated discharge in the top cell [m**3/s];
sign is relativ to the direction of the moving ship
  • extrapolated discharge in the bottom cell [m**3/s]
  • integrated discharge in an ADCP ensemble including measured cells, top and bottom cells [m**3/s]
  • lines with the mean depth of a cell relativ to the surface and values of the physical quantities defined in the header; cells with no values or incorrect values are represented by a null value (normally 9999)

Notice: The header lines are analysed by the methods of the dictionary module. Therefore the dictionary-file adcp_profile_dico.dat is automatically read. It is present in directory $PROGHOME/dic/ .
