Definition
Navigation canal next to a river route with more than one channel level, otherwise sluice channel. Examples: Elbe Lateral Canal, side channel of the Ems, Hanekenfähr-Meppen as part of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, Landwehrkanal as side channel of the river Spree.
