Maximum Fall Velocity

This figure shows the maximum fall velocity within the period of data analysis in the Ems Estuary calculated for the scenario of a synthetic storm surge.

The maximum fall velocity for the water surface is calculated from the variations of water level within a given time span (typically half an hour) and extrapolated to a one hour period. No significant variations can be observed. The velocities reach about 0.6 m/h. They are significantly smaller compared with the calculated maximum rice velocities.
