Definition
Transverse structure in a tidal river with closure devices for closing off certain tides, especially to protect against storm surges. Barrage conditioning + ship lock system = barrage plant complex. Examples: Leda barrage with shipping opening (passage opening), Eider barrage with ship lock system.
