Definition
A low dam or wall across a stream to raise the upstream water level. Termed fixed crest weir when uncontrolled.
Dam that blocks the entire valley cross-section beyond the cross-section of the watercourse. It usually consists of the main barrier with reservoirs and lockers (shut-off structures) with dumps or storage basins.
