The two-dimensional finite element numerical model TELEMAC-2D can be used to simulate flow and transport processes in different free-surface flow problems.
The following list of physical processes are taken into account by TELEMAC-2D:

* shallow water equations
** local acceleration (inertia)
** advective acceleration
** Coriolis acceleration
** barotropic pressure gradient
** baroclinic pressure gradient (depth integrated)
** atmospheric pressure gradient
** turbulent diffusion and dispersion
** bottom friction
** wind friction
Turbulence can be optionally calculated using a K-Epsilon turbulence model.

* Boussinesq-equation

With the aid of the numerical model TELEMAC-2D the following physical quantities can be calculated:
* depth-averaged scalar velocity
* depth-averaged velocity in x-direction
* depth-averaged velocity in y-direction
* surface wave celerity C
* water depth
* free surface elevation
* bathymetric depth (bottom)
* Froude number
* Courant number
* depth-averaged scalar flowrate
* depth-averaged flowrate in x-direction
* depth-averaged flowrate in y-direction
* depth-averaged tracer concentration
* depth-averaged turbulent kinetic energy
* depth-averaged turbulent dissipation
* depth-averaged turbulent viscosity
