The application &#039;&#039;&#039;display_percentiles&#039;&#039;&#039; is able to calculate and plot statistics from profile data, e.g. profiles contained in [[XTRDATA]]-output or profiles contained in [[NetCDF]]-files. It is possible to plot the mean, minima and maxima, the median and additionally the desired percentiles.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Information concerning input in [[NetCDF]]-format:  &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
* the dataset needs a variable called Mesh1_prof_long_name which contains the names of the profiles&lt;br /&gt;
* the dataset needs a variable called Mesh1_prof_nodes which contains the node information&lt;br /&gt;
* the dataset needs a variable called Mesh1_prof_node_distance which contains the distance of the values along the profile (unit: m or km)&lt;br /&gt;
* the dataset needs a variable called nMesh1_data_time which contains the time information&lt;br /&gt;
* the program is only able to display variables that are time and space dependent (i.e. they need to contain the dimensions nMesh1_data_time, Mesh1_node_x, Mesh1_node_y and nMesh1_node)&lt;br /&gt;
* variables that have been calculated for different depth levels (i.e. that have a dimension nMesh1_layer_3d) cannot be displayed  &lt;br /&gt;
Information concerning input in [[EXCEL.DAT|excel.dat]]-format (i.e. files that have been created using [[XTRDATA]]): &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
* the program does accept both dot and comma as decimal separator&lt;br /&gt;
Further information: &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The program needs a steering file and the corresponding dictionary file. The dictionary file can be found here:  /net/themis/system/akprog/dic/display_percentiles_dico.dat. However, if you have a file with the same name in your working directory the local file will be used. The name and the path of the steering file will be requested by the program during run time.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

plotProfilZeit is the predecessor of [[DISPLAY_PERCENTILES]] und &amp;quot;DISPLAY_HOVMOLLER&amp;quot;. Both had previously been developed to display data along a profile. However, both used the same data types and were different only in the way they presented the data. Therefore, to simplify application maintenance, both functionalities were incorporated into one application, plotProfilZeit. [[DISPLAY_PERCENTILES]] is still available, but will not be further developed. &amp;quot;DISPLAY_HOVMOLLER&amp;quot; not available anymore.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Possible ways to display data:&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The spatial dimension is displayed along the x-axis and time is displayed along the y-axis. The physical value at each point is color-coded.&lt;br /&gt;
* Type = &#039;&#039;&#039;Percentiles&#039;&#039;&#039;:  The temporal variation of the values can also be displayed in this way. The spatial dimension is again displayed along the x-axis, but the physical value itself is displayed along the y-axis. The temporal average at each point is displayed as a solid line over the x-dimension. The temporal variation is displayed as a grey area in the background, which is the area between to chosen percentile values, default is 5 % and 95 %.&lt;br /&gt;
* Type = &#039;&#039;&#039;Allevents&#039;&#039;&#039;: The temporal evolution is displayed by showing all available synoptic values as single lines along the profile. A color spectrum is used to show the temporal evolution, as long as not too many events are overlapping. &lt;br /&gt;
* Type = &#039;&#039;&#039;Multidata&#039;&#039;&#039;: This allows no display of the temporal variation. Instead, values from different runs can be compared. Single values from different data sets are displayed in one diagram. ncprofil is the predecessor of [[PLOTPROFILZEIT]], which is still available but will not be further developed. The difference is a re-engineering and adaptation to the new standards for Matlab-Proghome Tools. In a next step, the netcdf reading routine will be updated. In the re-engineering, the old input format [[XTRDATA]] was not included.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Beside the display of the percentiles (see above), this predictive value is shown as a red line. The x-axis is the spatial dimension, while the y-axis shows the physical quantity.&lt;br /&gt;

The software was developed to assist engineers in solving practical problems. This page gives you a list in alphabetical order of the most important programs in use. For every listed program a short description of its functionality is available. More than that, you will also find information on closely related programs (fore-runners and after-runners). In addition to this an [[overview]] of required and optional input-files is given together with an enumerated list of the output-files generated by the program. &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
