Definition
Structure with closure for the discharge of surplus water from a watercourse (unusable part of the present water) or as relief from high water from an impoundment or sewer into a different position or to another watercourse by gravity. The reference area here is relieved water while at intake structures the extracted water is the reference area. An outlet structure of a navigation channel can be configured as running in a culvert under the shipping channel.
