Definition
Construction to overcome a falling step, in which watercrafts are lifted / lowered by filling or emptying the lock chamber. A ship lock system may consist of one or more shipping locks in addition to plant accessories. Outer ports usually belong to the ship lock system as regulated in ObKat. Ship lock systems may be part of plant complexes such as barrages, channel levels, blocking plant complexes or port facility complexes, but also at the falling step of a navigation channel.
