DIRZ.BIN.I

From BAWiki

Basic Information

File-Type

dirz.bin.i

Version

February 1996

Description-Date

December 2010

Significance of the File

contains comprehensive informations about the data stored in a file of type dirz.bin (universal direct access data format)

File-Contents (in Catchwords)

This file does contain all relevant informations about the data stored in a direct access file of type dirz.bin (DD). Any information is stored as a single data-record. Different numbers of information-records can be stored in arbitrary sequence. The following types of information can be stored:

  1. end of file mark
  2. code which describes the type of the data file DD
  3. information about additional files which are necessary for the correct interpretation of the data in DD (e.g. name of the file with bathymetry and grid)
  4. characteristic dates (e.g. start and end for the period of data analysis)
  5. number of data points stored in the file DD
  6. number and code for all physical quantities which are stored in DD
  7. comment lines
  8. description of time-series data (start and end time, number of time steps) if the data are stored as time-series in DD
  9. description of the data-file DD (name, recordlength, etc.)
  10. description of specific locations (coordinates, name of reference positions, etc.)
  11. informations about the storage-sequence of the data in the file DD
  12. date for the data-records stored in the file DD if synoptic data-sets are stored
  13. description of the kinds for the stored data (scalar, vector or tensor)
  14. description of the dimensions for the stored data (1D, 2D or 3D)
  15. description of the FORTRAN-data-types for the stored data (INTEGER, REAL, COMPLEX, DOUBLE PRECISION)
  16. desription of the time-dependence for the stored data (time-dependent synoptic data, time-independent data, etc.)
  17. clear text names of the physical quantities stored
  18. informations about normalization-parameters if the data are stored in normalized form
  19. number of data-varieties for each stored physical quantity (e.g. several fractions of suspended sediment)
  20. additional text informations
  21. informations about the vertical structure of the data-space

A short description of the data-format is available in German only. Please visit or download BAW-Datenformat BDF in one of the following formats:

  • HTML Version 2.0 (December 1998)
  • PDF-Format:
Version 1.0 (February 1998)
Version 2.0 (December 1998)

Remark: in earlier times also the names dirzus.bin.i, dirzei.bin.i and dirana.bin.i were used for this file.
